This year’s SPIRIT annual event brought together its members in Taidetehdas Porvoo. About 100 people joined the vibrant event to learn about the latest results in the projects running within the programme, hear interesting keynotes and most of all, network with likeminded people from a wide range of companies and research groups.
The second SPIRIT annual event took place on the 6th of June 2024 in Porvoo. It offered two interesting keynotes: The first one, given by Professor Jyri Seppälä, Chairperson of the Finnish Climate Change Panel, Finnish Environment Institute, covered the steps towards Europe’s 2040 climate target, and in the second one, Nina Ackermans, Director Strategy & Portfolio of Innovation & Technology from Borealis discussed the importance of collective action in unleashing circular economy.

In addition, inspiring results from the projects running within the SPIRIT programme were presented. This year, the updates were given on GreenAro, e-Propane, Forest CUMP, CO2 capture with superbases, Sulki, MSW Plast and UrbanMill projects. During the extended coffee break, the event participants had an opportunity to get to know the other projects on the stands, namely Circular Plastic Pipes, Bio4All, Zero ink, DREAM, ReMatCH, STAR and Reusify. The afternoon ended in lively networking where the participants reflected on the day’s topics and continued the discussions around the SPIRIT themes.

SPIRIT Programme Manager Jaakko Tuomainen enjoyed the lively interaction: “It was truly energising to see the progress of the SPIRIT projects at the event, and the networking parts were once again very valuable. Seeing the ecosystem coming together, meeting old friends and colleagues, and bouncing new ideas – that made the spirit of the event! I want to thank all participants for this, and I wish great summertime to all.”
